Joyce called the meeting to order at 2:02.
Joyce welcomed everyone.
Patricia Keller & Greg Huber, the speaker, introduced themselves.† Tim McLaughlin introduced Connie's father Ron.† Faye Weaver from Northeast, MD introduced herself and her husband.
The March meeting was cancelled due to the weather forecast.
The February minutes, prepared by Heather Watkins, were approved as presented.
The February and March treasurerís reports were read by Bob and were approved as read.† The society currently has 392 members, which is 22 less than 1 year ago.
Covered Bridge Reports from Members:
Clyde Scheib said that he found a copy of Ben & June Evans' interview about the first book they wrote in 1993.† He gave it to them because they didn't have it.
Pat Cook reported that her aunt sent her a newspaper article with a picture of Academia Bridge.† She saw Jim Smedley's comments about the Enslow bridge painting project in Pennsylvania Magazine.† She attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for Pinetown Bridge.
Bonnie Shultz reported that she and Gary saw Rishel Bridge.† When she visited Keefer Bridge, they were painting and getting ready to pour concrete.† Herr's Mill Bridge is in really bad shape.† She also visited East & West Paden, Josiah Hess, Stillwater,† Forry's, Siegrist, and Schenk's.
Tim McLaughlin reported that the 2 bridges in the Laurel Preserve (Speakman #2 / Mary Ann Pyle and Hayes Clark) should have repairs done by July.† He will go take pictures.† Connie Francis added that Speakman #1 Bridge is still in bad shape and nothing is happening.

Visited the Heirline Bridge in Bedford County and found it in good shape except for some paint peeling.† This was the first bridge he saw this year due to the bad winter.

Saw a cute little non-authentic bridge at the Phoenix Zoo.

Went to visit his 96 year old Mom and found out she had passed away a half hour before.† He went to Dreibelbis Covered Bridge to gather his thoughts.

No one signed up, so Joyce brought a few things of hers that people have made.
Reports of illness or death of members:
Joyce† thanked everyone for the cards, phone calls, and emails following her fall down the basement steps.
We just learned that Carl Spier passed away in January and Paula Spier had passed away in 2011.† They were life members.
Member Janet Orland's husband Herb had intestinal surgery to correct serious issues.
Ginny reported that Mary Darrenkamp is now in a nursing home.† Michael added that Mary and Gene live in the same place as his mother; he saw them last weekend.
Greg reported that his Dad's brother passed away last weekend at 93 years old.
Today is the deadline to order safari shirts.† The shirt will be brown and the bridge is white.
Joyce is looking for volunteers to serve on the nominating committee for the 2014-2015 year.
Announcement of Covered Bridge and related events:
Joyce brought the new book, America's Covered Bridges, which is really nice.† Michael added more details about the book.† Bob is trying to acquire some for the Country Store.† Michael also brought a new book on the covered bridges of NJ; there were 45 bridges, some of which crossed the Delaware River.† Bob is trying to get some of these for the Country Store too.
Joyce found a garden flag of Sauck's bridge and purchased it.† She gave it to Bob since that's his favorite bridge.
Greg read the proclamation for See Pennsylvania's Covered Bridges Week.
The Pledge of Allegiance was conducted.
We did not get to do the signing of the proclamation for See Pennsylvania's Covered Bridges Week with Governor Corbett.
Tom has done the SPCBW poster again this year.
Members will be setting up displays at the Welcome Centers again for National Tourism Week and SPCBW.† The small display board will be available next month if anyone wants to set up a display somewhere.
The safari is May 31 to June 1 in Ohio.† Details are in the most recent PA Crossings.
The August meeting will be at Shearer's Bridge.
The date for Poole Forge decorating has been moved from Black Friday to the Saturday before Thanksgiving, which is Nov 22.
A new member asked for a brief explanation of how the safari works.
Announcement of next meeting date
The Anniversary dinner is May 3 at 11:00 AM at Dutchway Restaurant.
The Program today is "Construction Principles of Covered Bridges" by Greg Huber.
