ONE-DAY MINI SAFARI TO BRIDGES IN DAUPHIN, SCHUYLKILL & BERKS COUNTIES, MAY 18,2024.

Tony Abramo led 10 members on a one-day mini safari to see six bridges in Dauphin, Schuylkill and Berks counties on Saturday, May 18, 2024.  The safari began at Fort Hunter / Everhart Bridge at 8:30 a.m.  A group photo was taken at Henninger Farm Bridge.  We stopped for lunch at Pine Grove Diner.  In addition to Everhart and Henninger Farm bridges, we visited Zimmerman's Bridge and Rock Bridge in Schuylkill County, and Dreibelbis Station Bridge and Wertz's Bridge in Berks County.  Although rain was predicted all week for May 18, it only drizzled off and on.  Thanks to Tony for another well=planned, enjoyable mini safari.

PAINTING AND REPAIRING SACHS BRIDGE

On Saturday, August 5, 2023, twenty-one Burr Society members gathered at Sachs Bridge in Adams County to apply a much needed fresh coat of paint compliments of members' contributions to the TBCBSP Covered Bridge Restoration Fund and contributions from the National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges. Bill Stockum, a contracted painter, painted the exterior of the bridge and members of our Society painted the portal boards.  On August 24th members again gathered to apply NoChar Fire Retardant to the interior of the bridge. Prior to the painting event, Adams County's maintenance crew replaced over $6,000 worth of side and portal boards. The Burr Society contributed $10,266 for the board replacement and painting of Sachs Bridge.  The National Society contributed $6,342 for board replacement and fire retardant.

 ONE-DAY SAFARI TO SELECT COVERED BRIDGES IN JUNIATA, DAUPHIN AND NORTHERN PERRY COUNTIES, MAY 20, 2023.

Tony Abramo led 16 members on a one-day safari to Academia Bridge in Juniata County; Saville, Kochenderfer, Clay's, Fleisher's and Dellville in Perry County and Everhart/Fort Hunter in Dauphin County where we took the group photo  on Saturday, May 20, 2023.  Lunch was at the Newport Family Restaurant.  Considering the threatening rain (that never happed-it was a beautiful day) and the distance away from the Lancaster area, this was an excellent turnout.  Thanks again, Tony.

ONE-DAY SAFARI TO COVERED BRIDGES IN NORTHWESTERN LANCASTER COUNTY MAY 21, 2022. 

Tony Abramo led 27 members on our last one-day safari to Lancaster County, PA.  We gathered at the Park City Mall parking lot to start our journey to Landis Mill Bridge, Forry's, Siegrist Mill, Shenk's Mill, Kauffman's Distillery and Shearer's where we took the group photo.  Lunch was at Columbia Family Restaurant. Thanks again, Tony, for another great safari.

ONE-DAY SAFARI TO COVERED BRIDGES IN NORTHEASTERN LANCASTER COUNTY JUNE 19, 2021

33 members and guests met at a Sheetz Convenience Store on a beautiful day to begin our safari to 8 covered bridges in the northeast section of Lancaster County, PA.  Tony Abramo led us to Zook's Mill, Erb's Mill, Keller's Mill, Bitzer's Mill, Bucher's Mill, Oberholtzer's, Weaver's Mill and Poole Forge bridges.  We had a great lunch at Terre Hill Family Restaurant.  Another excellent safari led by Tony.

ONE-DAY SAFARI TO COVERED BRIDGES IN SOUTHERN LANCASTER COUNTY OCTOBER 17, 2020

26 members traveled to 6 covered bridges in the southern section of Lancaster County, PA on October 17, 2020. Tony Abamo led our group to Colemanville, Baumgardner's, Jackson's Sawmill, White Rock Forge, Pine Grove and Mercer's Mill bridges on a beautiful fall day.  We had a wonderful lunch at Hometown Kitchen Restaurant in Georgetown, PA.  A special thank you to Tony for organizing and leading us on this one-day safari. 

PAINTING RED BRIDGE

On Saturday, September 7, 2019, Society members gathered at Red Bridge in Perry County to scrape the bridge in preparation for painting. Members also replaced rotted boards. Members returned on the 14th to paint the portals of the bridge while our licensed painter, Bill Stockum, painted the sides of the bridge. The Perry County Historical Society paid for the paint and our Society members paid for the labor.

On Monday, October 14, 2019, Society members met at Red Bridge to apply NoChar Fire Retardant. The Society thanks the National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges for their generous donation to cover the cost of the NoChar Fire Retardant.

PAINTING DAVIS BRIDGE

On Saturday, August 11, 2018, Society members gathered at Davis Bridge in Columbia County to paint the portal boards of the bridge while our hired professional painter, Bill Stockum, applied a fresh coat of paint to the side boards. The cost of painting Davis Bridge was paid for through members' contributions to the TBCBSP Covered Bridge Restoration Fund.   Eleven members attended the painting of Davis Bridge.....Bob & Judy Kuether, who organized the event, Greg Williams, Ray & Linda Finkelstein, Tom Walczak, Jim & Gloria Smedley, Linda Havens, Linda Sones, and John Bechtel.

PAINTING SAM WAGNER BRIDGE

On Saturday, June 18, 2016, Society members gathered at Sam Wagner Bridge (Northumberland/Montour counties) to apply a much needed fresh coat of paint compliments of members' contributions to the TBCBSP Covered Bridge Restoration Fund. Bill Stockum, a contracted painter, painted the exterior of the bridge and members of our Society painted the portal boards.  Thirteen members or friends of members attended the painting of Sam Wagner Bridge.....Bob & Judy Kuether, who organized the event, Michael W. Chorazy, Greg Williams, Tim & Connie McLaughlin, Ray Finkelstein, Steve Wolfhope, Tom Saulino, Tim Cohen, Tom Walczak, Joe McCarthy, Bonnie Shultz.

PAINTING ESTHER FURNACE BRIDGE

On Saturday, June 20, 2015, Esther Furnace Bridge in Columbia County (PA-19-20) received a new coat of paint compliments of members contributions to the TBCBSP Covered Bridge Restoration Fund. Bill Stockum, a contracted painter, painted the exterior and interior sides of the bridge and members of our Society painted the portal boards, headache bars and interior rails.  Sixteen members attended the painting of Esther Furnace Bridge.
